A mass stranding of of winter scarab beetles (Adoryphorus couloni) at Bonnington, Barilla Bay. It is one of many species included under the common name of cockchafer. These appeared to have been washed ashore by the wind and tide, and were trying to dig themselves into the moist sand on the high tide line. EH |
